Wisconsin Livestock Siting Law Interactive Map
Wisconsin Livestock Siting Law Interactive Map
The Wisconsin Livestock Facility Siting Law and rules help establish a more
predictable permit process and uniform requirements for siting and expansion
of livestock operations. However, there are important local differences such
as whether a permit is required and who issues the permit. This website can
help you learn about what is required in your municipality, including:
- Whether or not a permit is required
- If a permit is required, what is the general animal unit (AU) threshold that triggers the permit, and
- Contact information for local officials who can provide additional information about the permit requirements and how to obtain a permit.
The Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) and
University of Wisconsin Soil Science Extension are working together to
gather the most accurate data on existing local requirements for the siting
or expansion of livestock facilities in Wisconsin municipalities. We're in a
critical transition period when local governments will be adopting new and
modified ordinances to implement the siting law,
Livestock Facility Siting
Legislation (2003 Wisconsin Act 235).
The interactive map will not fully reflect these changes
until the beginning of 2007. Local governments can help ensure the accuracy
of our map by sending DATCP any new or modified zoning or licensing
ordinances. Users should contact their town or county officials to confirm
any information obtained from this interactive map.
Increased awareness of the new livestock facility siting requirements will
enable landowners and stakeholders to establish a starting point for
implementing the requirements within their community.
