B.S. Soil Science, 1976, M.S. Soil Science, M.S. Forestry, 1978, Ph.D. Soil Science, 1989, Univ. of Wisconsin
As a member of the University academic staff, I serve as a statewide Extension contact for soil and water management issues. Examples of my area of interest that relate to crop management include tillage effects on crop production, tillage interactions with soil fertility and manure management, soil compaction, precision agriculture, and implementation of soil conservation practices. My Extension responsibilities also include programming in the area of the land application of municipal and industrial waste materials. I conduct an active applied research program to provide management recommendations for these issues.
My teaching responsibilities include Introductory Soil Science, and Soil and Water Resource Management courses in the Farm and Industry Short Course program. Students interested in farming, and other agriculture vocations, are taught by UW faculty and staff and can earn a one or two year certificate. The program was established in 1885 and runs from November through March.
I am also actively involved in University governance and service, with membership
on the Farm and Industry Short Course Committee the Departmental Teaching and Extension
Committees. Outside the University, I am a member of the Wisconsin Certified Crop Adviser
Board that sets policy for Wisconsin's 600+ Certified Crop Advisers and the Baraboo
Agricultural Education Advisory Council that provides guidance to the Baraboo School
District's Agricultural Education Department.
