Forecasts for Today and Tomorrow

Today

Bog forecasts for the current day should generally be available by noon at the latest. These forecasts can be accessed through the "Today" links on our home page. The plots here show a 30-hour forecast that covers the period from TODAY at 6:00 am to 12 noon of the next morning.

Tomorrow

To help you in planning ahead, each day we also produce a bog forecast for the following day. These can be accessed through the "Tomorrow" links on our home page. The plots here show a 30-hour forecast that covers the period from TOMORROW at 6:00 am to 12 noon of the next morning. There is a 6 hour overlap with the TODAY forecast.

Am I looking at the right plots?

All of our forecast plots start at 6AM on the date listed at the top of the plot. This holds true for both the TODAY and TOMORROW plots. All plots should be updated for the new day by around noon (see the next page for our update schedule).

If you load a TODAY forecast page after lunch and it shows the date for yesterday, there are two possible explanations:

  1. First make sure that it is really a fresh copy of the page, and not just a file your computer took from its disk. Browsers sometimes do this to save time or if the Internet connection is not working. You can always be sure you have the latest by hitting the "Reload" or "Refresh" button on your browser. That will make it go to our computer for a fresh copy of the page.

  2. The second possiblity is that the new forecast for TODAY is not yet ready. This can happen because one of our computers has had a mild stroke, or that the data we need from the National Weather Service did not arrive over the Internet. Check back shortly. If the input data streams fail completely on a given day, we will publish a manual forecast generated by trained forecasters in our team.
In this event you can still look at the long-range forecast made the night before, available through the TOMORROW links on our homepage.
