Teaching and Research
Teaching Overview
I teach the Introductory Soil Science and Soil and Water Management classes in the Farm and Industry Shortcourse, a two year certificate program in the college. Each of these classes is taught in a six week term, with a 50-minute lecture each day.
Research Overview
I conduct a modest applied research program that supports my Extension activities. Current research projects include:
- Evaluation of conservation tillage methods and fertility treatments in a continuous corn and corn/soybean rotations
- Effect of municipal biosolid treatment on P availability
- Response of corn and soybean to a lime amended soybean
- Application of high rates of de-inking sludge as a soil amendment
- Using a dredged lake sediment as a soil amendment
- Evaluation of Bio-Gro for potato
- Evaluation of Nitamin treatments for potato and forage
- Evaluation of King-taro for sweet corn and soybean
- Using precision ag. technology to improve manure management
Extension Overview
I am a state specialist in the area of soil and water management and the land application of waste materials. I speak to an average of 4,000 farmers, crop advisors, county agents, agency staff, and other individuals engaged in production agriculture and environmental issues. I organize several major outreach programs each year.
