Instructions: You may discuss the problems with anyone but
the final work should be done independently. Respond to each question precisely
as instructed by the question. For example, if the question says explain one
reason only explain one reason even if you know many reasons and if the
question asks you to calculate a volume do not give a mass. Be sure to label all
numeric answers with the correct units. Use correct English and complete
sentences for explanations. Each problem will be marked as accepted or “re-do”.
There are no “re-do’s” of “re-do’s”. Re-do’s” are not accepted if an “honest”
attempt was not submitted on the original due date. All portions of each
problem set must be accepted to receive credit for the entire set. When
submitting a problem set be sure to indicate the problem set number and if the
submission is a “re-do” in the upper right corner.
- For
any location of 5 acres (2.5 hectares) or less familiar to you, your
childhood home, grandparents farm garden or a favorite hunting spot give
the location such that anyone could find the same location. You could use
township and range or latitude-longitude. Then list the soil map unit
symbol, soil series name and one use that this soil is well suited. Hard
copy soil surveys for the nation are found on the 4th floor of
Steenbock Library.
- From
any article in the “popular” press related to land use select one
statement from the article and classify it according to 1. The statement is supported by scientific
evidence. 2. The statement can probably be
scientifically supported, but further research is needed. 3.
The statement is probably true but nearly impossible to support
with scientific evidence. 4. The statement is not supported
scientifically. Be sure to give the title and reference for the article
and give the statement you are classifying.
